Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Levi Colwill as Chelsea find themselves under pressure to stay within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
That is according to the Evening Standard.
So, what is the situation involving Liverpool and Levi Colwill? Let’s take a look…
Liverpool monitoring Levi Colwill
Well – according to the Evening Standard – Liverpool considered a move for the England international last summer before he signed a new contract with Chelsea.
That new deal saw the Blues increase Colwill’s wages to £100,000-a-week.
Now – however – due to some chaotic spending under Todd Boehly, Chelsea may be forced to sell a valuable asset this summer to stay within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
The Evening Standard believe Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, Armando Broja, and Trevoh Chalobah could all be sold, due to the fact academy products count as 100% profit in the financial accounts.
However, if Chelsea fail to receive any interest in the quartet – and Liverpool offer good money for Colwill – a sale may have to be genuinely considered.

Colwill has made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal while also providing one assist.
Liverpool might replace Joel Matip
Jurgen Klopp already has Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jarell Quansah to choose from in his centre-back department.
Therefore, the fact Liverpool are closely monitoring Colwill suggests the Reds want to upgrade on one of these names.
In our view, Matip may be the one to leave if the Southampton-born defender does end up swapping Stamford Bridge for Anfield.

Therefore – with Matip also turning 33 in August – Liverpool may opt against handing the man from Bochum a new contract, which seems likely to be the case anyway as Colwill is shortlisted.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen this summer.
