Report: Liverpool now looking at 'sensational' £51m winger; they've been scouting him for 12 months already

Liverpool are constantly looking for new wingers ahead of Mo Salah eventually leaving and Alex Baena is the latest name now being linked.

Villarreal star Baena is a wanted man at the moment it seems. Reports have suggested Aston Villa are super keen on signing the winger, while a host of other English sides like him as well.

According to 90Min, Liverpool are among those teams to be showing an interest in Baena.

90Min claims that Liverpool have been among a cluster of big clubs from England who have been watching him closely over the last 12 months or so.

Baena, 22, is deemed to be one of the hottest properties coming out of Spain right now. Lauded as a ‘sensational’ player by the Football Talent Scout, Jack Kulig, the young winger will no doubt get a move away from Villarreal at some point down the line.

It’s believed Baena has a £51m release-clause in his contract. Of course, in terms of Premier League fees nowadays, that won’t be enough to put the big clubs off.

Alex Baena could replace Salah at Liverpool

There is no doubt that Liverpool need to ensure they have got their house in order for when Mo Salah does decide to up and leave.

Given the clamour for him last summer from Saudi, that could well be this summer coming.

The Reds need to make sure they have players in the squad who can fill the void. Signing Luis Diaz was a big part of that, while young Ben Doak also looks like he might be a big talent as well.

But Baena looks to be on a different level already. Still only 22, there is ample time for Baena to improve even further and Liverpool know full well there’ll be a clamour to sign him.

Acting quickly, then, could well be what’s needed if and when the winger becomes available.
