Liverpool now lead the race to sign a player Chelsea have reportedly bid £51m for.
The Reds are on the hunt for reinforcements after waving goodbye to Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara at the end of last season – as both see their contracts expire imminently.
Now, Liverpool are hot on the tail of a highly creative midfielder to replace the Spain international…
Liverpool lead race to sign Teun Koopmeiners
A story by Calciomercato now states that Liverpool are above all other clubs hoping to sign Atalanta No.7 Teun Koopmeiners this summer.
The Netherlands international has enjoyed a tremendous 2023/24 campaign in Bergamo, scoring 15 goals while also providing seven assists in 49 appearances as Atalanta won the UEFA Europa League.
Now, Liverpool find themselves in pole position to sign Koopmeiners – who was the subject of a £51m bid from Chelsea in April, according to Sport Media Set.
Atalanta did not want to sell the Dutchman in the midst of the 2023/24 campaign – Newcastle even saw a £34m bid rejected during the winter.

Seeing as Chelsea have already – allegedly – offered that sum, a bidding war could commence between Liverpool and the Blues.
Arne Slot could also sign Joel Matip replacement
As aforesaid, Koopmeiners should be able to replace the creativity of Thiago, and Liverpool also seem well positioned to sign a direct replacement for Matip.
Photo by Franco Arland/Getty ImagesA story by L’Equipe in France claims that Lille No.15 Leny Yoro has said goodbye to staff members at the Ligue 1 outfit, amid talk the precocious central defender – who Rio Ferdinand said can become an elite footballer – could move to Anfield in a £40m deal this summer.

If Koopmeiners and the Frenchman turn out to be Liverpool’s first signings under Arne Slot, it would certainly be impressive work from Michael Edwards, as two important figures in Matip and Thiago would be swiftly replaced.
