Liverpool have been heavily linked with Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte in recent weeks.
Last week, one report claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds had been “in talks with the Uruguayan for two weeks”.
Now, Record has reported that Liverpool are making even more progress in pursuit of Ugarte.

In addition, Liverpool should also come with their first bid for Ugarte.
At this stage, the Anfield representatives will just try to understand the Lions’ stance on a deal, added the report.
Record also claims that other Premier League clubs are angling to make a bid for Ugarte.
The midfielder has a £52million release clause and Sporting would struggle to hold on to him with such a bid.
‘Mentality monster’
Ugarte is an incredibly exciting talent who has plenty of top clubs after his signature.
As well as Liverpool, the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be circling too.
Ugarte would be a great shout for the Reds, who are in dire need of bolstering their midfield ranks.
He’s incredibly talented, versatile, technically superb, and is willing to run himself into the ground for the cause.
A recent report from Footballtransfers – via Sporting Life – described Ugarte as the “Uruguayan Casemiro”.

‘He can also dribble out of trouble to good effect when required.
‘With a tireless engine, Ugarte’s main appeal though is his sheer brawn and strength. He is a mentality monster with great guile and physical attributes.’
Meanwhile, Liverpool.com have likened the player to Aurelien Tchouameni, one of the best young midfielders in the world.
With Liverpool eager to bounce back and challenge for the title again, Ugarte sounds like the kind of player the Reds need for next season.
