Report: Liverpool now favourites to sign attacker Troy Deeney said was even better than Mohamed Salah

Liverpool may need to sign a new attacker this summer.

Indeed, while the Reds’ frontline is stacked with talent at the moment, there are some question marks over the futures of some of their key players.

Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, while a move away from Anfield has also been touted for Luis Diaz.

Luckily, it sounds as though Liverpool are scouring the market for new attacking options, and they’re said to be leading the race for one of Europe’s most promising forwards.

Liverpool leading Rodrygo race

According to Mundo Deportivo, half the Premier League wants to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid, but it is Liverpool who are leading the race for his signature.

The Brazilian has made himself into a star at the Santiago Bernabeu in recent years, but now, he may have to make way for some bigger names.

Indeed, with Kylian Mbappe and Endrick set to arrive this summer, Madrid may have to move one of their attacking options on, and Rodrygo is perhaps the most likely candidate to leave.

With Liverpool potentially planning for life post-Mohamed Salah, this move for the South American could make the world of sense.

Rodrygo is said to be better than Mohamed Salah

Rodrygo is a fantastic player, but replacing someone like Salah would be a massive job.

However, according to Troy Deeney, it’s a job that Rodrygo is more than up to.

Indeed, speaking to ESPN back in March, Deeney actually stated that he thinks Rodrygo is a better player than Salah.

“Rodrygo or Grealish?” Deeney was asked.

“Rodrygo,” Deeney said.

“Rodrygo or Salah? Deeney was asked.

“Oh, Rodrygo,” Deeney said.

Of course, Rodrygo doesn’t have as impressive a scoring record as Salah, but the fact that this conversation can even be viable goes to show how brilliant a player he is.

Liverpool would be getting a fantastic player if they could pull this one off, and it’s certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
