Liverpool and Chelsea are set to test Newcastle’s resolve by going for midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the summer.
Admissions from Newcastle this week that they may have to sell a big-name player to help with FFP have got some in the northeast worried. Since the comments, rumours have already started to swirl around the likes of Alex Isak, Sven Botman and of course, Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will hope the club finds a way around things and he gets to keep his star men.
However, according to a report from Spanish outlet AS, midfielder Guimaraes is indeed set to leave for around £98m in the summer, and Liverpool are very interested.
Liverpool and Chelsea very keen on Bruno Guimaraes
The report from AS claims that Newcastle’s board have decided that the Brazilian would be the most suitable sale to sort out their finances.
It’s claimed that the Mags will sell Bruno for around £98m, meaning a club-record fee if Liverpool are the team who pursue the midfielder.

News of the Brazilian potentially being sold, especially to Liverpool, will concern Newcastle fans.
It’s also suggested Chelsea are in the mix to sign him as well. However, the Blues need to reign in their own spending and could well be priced out.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are not expected to go big in January, meaning they could be well positioned come the summer.
An Anfield star in the making
Newcastle fans won’t want to hear it but Bruno Guimaraes is just the sort of player Liverpool fans would love.
He is all-action in the middle of the park and the idea of him alongside Mac Allister and Szoboszlai in there is enough for Reds fans to get seriously excited.
Right now, there are better central midfielders in the Premier League than Guimaraes.
£98m would be a huge fee to shell out for the Reds. But we’ve seen them spend big in the past if they need to, so don’t put it past them going for Bruno here either.
