Liverpool have now held talks about signing a Mexican forward – who has been compared to Gabriel Jesus.
Arne Slot and Michael Edwards are already – seemingly – hard at work to strengthen the playing staff at Anfield, following a 2023/24 campaign under Jurgen Klopp that sadly ended with no silverware.
There is believed to be concrete interest in Benfica No.10 Orkun Kokcu – a player who shone under the Dutchman at Feyenoord.
Now – however – Liverpool are also focusing on negotiations to sign a Mexican wonderkid…
Liverpool hold Matheus Reis talks
A story from Jovenes Futbolistas MX claims that Liverpool have just met with the representatives of Matheus Reis – as the Reds look to beat Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle and Monaco to his signature.
It is said that Fluminense expect to receive a bid for the 17-year-old this summer, although it is not made clear which of the interested clubs will send an offer.
An earlier story regarding Reis – this time from Calciomercato – added that the teenager has a release clause worth €50m (£43m) written into his contract at Fluminense, so any agreement would be a pricey one for Liverpool.

Arne Slot could sign Gabriel Jesus 2.0
Reis is yet to become a household name – given his lack of senior experience – so Liverpool fans may have never heard of the teenager.
If that is the case, a comparison to a better known footballer might help, and the Liverpool target has actually been compared to Arsenal No.9 Gabriel Jesus.
It was the aforementioned story by Calciomercato where the comparison first arose, as the Italian news outlet describe Reis as a mixture between the Brazil international, and Benfica wonderkid Marcos Leonardo.

However – as seen through the respective rises of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo at Real Madrid – there is often immense value in snapping up a Brazilian wonderkid before they become a household name.
