Liverpool made ‘new positive contacts’ with Xabi Alonso this week, and the Spaniard wants to replace Jurgen Klopp to become the next Reds manager.

The Merseysiders lifted the Carabao Cup on Sunday, and Klopp was delighted. It was a really satisfying performance on the pitch, and Liverpool‘s board have since been working on the German’s replacement. Alonso looks like their preferred option.

Liverpool make ‘new positive contacts’ with Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso has been viewed by many as the favourite to become the next Liverpool manager.

The 42-year-old is doing a remarkable job at Bayer Leverkusen. His men are eight points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table, and with just 11 games left in the league, they are the favourites to win it.

Alonso has been heavily linked with the Liverpool job recently, and Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna has now shared a really positive update for Reds fans.

The journalist tweeted yesterday: “Liverpool had new positive contacts with Xabi Alonso. The manager wants the move to the Reds who will continue to push in the next weeks.

“Bayern Munich is there but, for now, Xabi Alonso is more excited to join Liverpool and the PL.”

In his report on Foot Mercato, Aouna further backed his tweet. He revealed that Alonso’s heart ‘leans sharply in favor of Liverpool’, and Bayern are only a ‘secondary’ option.

It is further claimed that Alonso ‘would be delighted’ to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool because the Reds are more ‘stable and better structured’ than Bayern.

Great news for Liverpool fans

If the report is true, Liverpool fans should be over the moon.

Almost every Reds supporter has been in favour of appointing Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager ever since Jurgen Klopp announced he would be stepping down.

The Spaniard has impressed everyone with how well he has managed Leverkusen, and everybody knows it’s only a matter of time before he moves to a bigger club.

Bayern want him, but Liverpool definitely are ‘more stable and better structured’, which makes Anfield a much more attractive destination this summer.
