Liverpool considering 41-year-old manager
According to The Athletic, Thiago Motta has now been discussed as a potential option for Liverpool.
The Italian has been making waves in Serie A this season with Bologna, leading them to fourth in the league, and he’s now being discussed as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp.
Interestingly, Liverpool aren’t the only club with an eye on Motta, Juventus are also said to be keen.
Thiago Motta could be the next big manager
Motta has done a stellar job with Bologna this season, and his rise to prominence in the coaching world won’t be a shock to many.
Indeed, this is a manager who was causing uproar in coaching circles before he even started his first senior job.
Cast your mind back a few years, and you’ll remember Motta discussing a 2-7-2 formation and creating a number of headlines due to his outlandish ideas.
In reality, Motta plays a more simple 4-3-3 which emphasises high energy and high pressing, and, interestingly, he’s also cited Jose Mourinho as an inspiration in the past.
Motta, famously, played under Mourinho during his time at Inter Milan, and, by the sounds of it, some of his coaching ethos has rubbed off on the former midfielder.
Mourinho is one of the best managers of all-time, so hiring a young coach who has been inspired by the former Chelsea gaffer may not be the worst idea in the world.
This may well be a situation worth keeping an eye on.
