Liverpool appear to be keeping a very close eye on the progress of Ruben Amorim as they prepare for life after Jurgen Klopp, with the Reds scouting Sporting’s 2-1 win over Benfica last week.
Ruben Amorim is one of the names in the frame for the Anfield gig as Liverpool prepare to make a massive decision ahead of the summer. Of course, Jurgen Klopp brought the football world to a standstill when he announced in late January that he would be leaving at the end of this season.
Liverpool are monitoring Xabi Alonso given the brilliant job he has done with Bayer Leverkusen. But he is not the only name on the Reds’ radar.
Liverpool regularly scouting Sporting amid Ruben Amorim interest
Amorim has admirers at Liverpool, with the Sporting boss available if his £8.6 million release clause is triggered. And it seems that the Premier League leaders are leaving no stone unturned as they weigh up whether to make a move for the 39-year-old.

The report notes that Alonso remains the front-runner for the post. However, Amorim is also very highly thought-of amongst the decision-makers at Anfield.
Huge pressure on Liverpool’s choice if they decide against Xabi Alonso
Alonso is also wanted by Bayern Munich, and could yet remain at Leverkusen as they seemingly close in on winning the Bundesliga title.
And thus, it makes sense that Liverpool are keeping their options open. What is for sure is that anyone other than Alonso is going to be under real pressure should they come in.
Alonso appears to be the fans’ preferred choice. And thus, he is likely to be given time and patience, particularly given what he has achieved with Leverkusen.
If they turn to someone else, that manager may have an even bigger point to prove. Replacing Klopp is already going to be a big enough task.
Having said that, if Liverpool pursue Amorim over Alonso, it will obviously be a very strong indicator that they feel that the Portuguese is a special manager.
