Liverpool have now made contact with Xabi Alonso as the Reds start to prepare for life without Jürgen Klopp at Anfield.
That is according to Foot Mercato.
So, what is the latest on Xabi Alonso and Liverpool? Let’s take a look…
Liverpool make contact with Xabi Alonso
Well, the 42-year-old has been described by many as the favourite to replace Klopp ever since the German announced he would be leaving Liverpool this summer.
Now – according to Foot Mercato – the Reds have made contact with Alonso.
The French news outlet explain that Liverpool have now been able to make some progress in a move to hire the Spaniard at the end of the season.
However, it is said that Alonso remains content with life at Bayer Leverkusen, so at this stage, it is merely just an enquiry from Liverpool as opposed to something more concrete.
The Tolosa-born tactician has made a name for himself in Germany this season, with Bayer Leverkusen remarkably still yet to lose a game after 30 matches.

In total, the man who made 210 appearances for Liverpool has overseen 83 wins from his 165 games in management – a fantastic record, to say the least.
One man stands out to Liverpool as Xabi Alonso alternative
Foot Mercato add that Alonso could opt to take over at Real Madrid or Bayern Munich one day – in that respect, Liverpool need alternatives.
According to Gianluigi Longari of TV Dello Sport, there is one alternative who “stands out” to the Reds – Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Liverpool attempt to hire Alonso as the No.1 choice.
