Liverpool’s bid to appoint the right manager to replace Jurgen Klopp seems to be pointing them very much the way of Xabi Alonso.
The Spaniard seems to tick a lot of boxes for Liverpool and FSG right now and is being courted by a number of top clubs around Europe as well as the Reds.
Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side hammered Bayern Munich this weekend to further add to his stock as well.
And now, according to Tuttomercatoweb, Liverpool are ahead of the rest when it comes to making a move to bring Alonso in.

According to the report, Barcelona are just as keen on Liverpool as bringing in Alonso, while Bayern Munich are also mentioned given Thomas Tuchel’s precarious position.
However, it’s claimed that is indeed Liverpool who have moved ahead of the pack to bring Alonso in.
Further, it’s explained how one potential hurdle in the form of Real Madrid won’t be going for Alonso given their commitment to Carlo Ancelotti.
Liverpool, then could well have a clear run at landing Alonso here.
A lot could depend on if he does get over the line with Bayer in the Bundesliga. If he does, then just like Jurgen Klopp, he could follow that up with a move to Anfield.
Liverpool move looking inevitable
It almost feels like we are at a point where Liverpool fans would feel a little hard done to if they didn’t end up with Xabi Alonso now.
He is such a ‘special‘ manager so early in his career that it feels almost inevitable that he will end up in charge of the Merseysiders.
Right now, Alonso’s focus will be on winning that title with Leverkusen and then simply seeing what goes on from there.
But Liverpool know they need to act to get Klopp’s replacement sorted and the longer they dither on Alonso, the more it opens doors for others to perhaps sneak in.
