Liverpool have reportedly expressed an interest in Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo.

According to the Evening Standard, the Reds are one of several elite clubs in pursuit of the 18-year-old.

As well as Liverpool, the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona are reportedly eyeing Moscardo.

The outlet claims that the Brazilian giants value the player at around £26million.

Corinthians will wait until after their presidential elections on November 25 before they discuss any potential deal, added the report.

Liverpool will fancy their chances of signing ‘phenomenal’ midfield talent

Liverpool did well to bolster their midfield ranks in the summer, particularly considering they lost two key midfielders out of the blue.

However, there’s still scope for the Reds to bring in some reinforcements at No. 6.

At present, Liverpool boss has tasked Alexis Mac Allister with that role, but he’s better further up the pitch.

Moscardo is a good shout for the Reds, who have made quite a name for themselves as a club that gives youth a chance.

He made his senior debut for Corinthians in June and is a Brazil Under-23 international.

As per journalist Ben Mattinson, Moscardo is “one of the best DM prospects in world football”.

The player’s strengths include athleticism, dribbling, tackling, anticipation, technical security, duels and press resistance.

‘Exceptional’

Meanwhile, Football Talent Scout described Moscardo as “the future of Brazil’s midfield”.

“The main thing that sets Gabriel apart is that he combines his physical and technical gifts proficiently along with his phenomenal defensive awareness,” they wrote.

“His expansive understanding of situations and space is already visible at such a young age.

“Moscardo constantly scans over both shoulders, which means he has a perpetual internal map of his teammates and the opposition.

“This situational awareness also comes in handy when defending in the box.

“His recognition of off-ball runs is exceptional, making sure to either pick them up himself or pointing at his teammates to tag onto the opposition to avoid them receiving the ball.”

Liverpool will certainly fancy their chances of signing the talented midfielder, but with so many other top clubs after him, it’ll be no mean feat.
