Liverpool may now turn to Ruben Amorim after being made aware of Xabi Alonso’s reluctance to take over the club.

The Reds are busy at work behind the scenes as they look to find a successor to Jurgen Klopp. The German will leave the club at the end of the season, and a number of managers have been linked with his job. Amorim may now be the favourite to become the next Liverpool boss.

Liverpool could try to appoint Ruben Amorim after finding out Xabi Alonso’s stance

Xabi Alonso has been viewed by many as Liverpool’s preferred candidate to become their next manager.

The Spaniard has made a fantastic name for himself in Germany, leading Bayer Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga table.

It is a certainty that Alonso will end up at a huge club one day, TeamTalk claim today that the Leverkusen boss views the Liverpool job as ‘right job, wrong time’ at the moment.

The Reds have been made aware of that stance, which is why the report claims they are considering the next name on their managerial shortlist – Ruben Amorim.

The 39-year-old is statistically the best option for Liverpool to appoint as their boss, and the report claims he is ‘enormously appreciated’ by the decision-makers at Anfield.

He is FSG’s preferred alternative to Alonso, but if they want to lure him away from Sporting Lisbon, they will have to trigger his release clause, which is set at £17.1 million.

Amorim is doing a brilliant job at Sporting Lisbon

Ruben Amorim is a phenomenal football manager.

The 39-year-old has been in charge of Sporting Lisbon since March 2020. He has managed 195 games in all competitions so far and has only lost 30 times.

Amorim has won four trophies at Sporting as well, including the Portuguese league title in his first full season as manager, beating the country’s two biggest clubs – Porto and Benfica.

Sporting have a huge chance of winning the league title again this season. They are currently level on points with leaders Benfica, but Amorim’s side have a game in hand.

Everything you see about Amorim is positive, and that’s probably why Liverpool want him as their new manager if they can’t get Alonso.
