Liverpool’s search for a new manager is proving to be rather difficult.
The Reds have known about Jurgen Klopp’s departure for a few months now, but, as of yet, no clear frontrunner for the job has emerged.
For a little while, it looked as though Xabi Alonso would be the man, but after the Spaniard committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen this week, the Reds are back to square one.
However, with that being said, Liverpool do have a few other names on their list, and according to The Athletic, the Reds are big fans of one 51-year-old boss.

According to The Athletic, Paulo Fonseca is one manager who is well-regarded at Liverpool.
The Portuguese gaffer has done some fantastic work at Liverpool and Roma in recent years, and now, he could be an outside shout for the Liverpool job.
Liverpool are yet to make a decision on a new manager, but it sounds as though Fonseca has at least been mentioned in these conversations.
Paulo Fonseca has been linked to the Premier League numerous times
Of course, this isn’t the first time Fonseca has been linked with a move to England.
Newcastle United and Manchester United have been linked in the past, while Fonseca himself as stated that he very nearly became the manager of Tottenham, but, ultimately, that didn’t work as Spurs felt he was too attacking at the time.
“The agreement was done. We were planning the pre-season and Tottenham wanted an offensive coach,” Fonseca told The Telegraph about almost joining Tottenham.
“It wasn’t announced but we planned pre-season players.
“But things changed when the new managing director [Fabio Paratici] arrived and we didn’t agree with some ideas and he preferred another coach.
“I have some principles. I wanted to be coach of the great teams but I want the right project and a club where the people believe in my ideas, my way to play, and this didn’t happen with the managing director.
“It’s what the chairman (Daniel Levy) and the sporting director (Steve Hitchen) asked for: to build a team who can play attractive and offensive football and I was ready for that.
“I cannot be a different way. All my teams will have these intentions. Against the biggest teams, I’m not sending out my teams to defend near their own box.”
This sounds like exactly the type of manager Liverpool need to replace Klopp.
The Reds will surely want to continue playing an exciting, expansive and attacking brand of football, and that’s exactly what Fonseca would bring to Anfield.
The 51-year-old could be just what the doctor ordered on Merseyside, and this is a rumour that may be worth getting excited about.
