Liverpool are in the market for a new midfielder to help Arne Slot’s rebuild and they could now make a move to beat Tottenham to a big signing.

The Reds are ready to embark on a new era under Slot and as part of the rebuild, a new midfielder is believed to be high on the agenda.

So far, we’ve seen solid links with Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. The Dutchman has worked with Arne Slot before and the connection is obvious.

Liverpool could now move for Atalanta’s Ederson

According to a report from TuttoSport, Liverpool have been over in Italy recently to keep an eye on the progress of Koopmeiners.

However, while watching him, the Reds have been alerted by the performances of his midfielder counterpart, Ederson.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has been a standout performer for the Serie A side this season and played a huge part in them winning the Europa League ahead of Bayer Leverkusen last week.

As we know, Ederson is already on the radar of Premier League side Tottenham.

Indeed, it’s been claimed that former sporting director Fabio Paratici has even been pushing Tottenham to sign him, such is his certainty over Ederson’s quality.

The Brazilian could well cost as much as £50m. But with Liverpool and Tottenham now keen, Atalanta will be more hopeful than ever of getting that figure.

Every year we see a few players emerge almost out of nowhere to become the most sought-after players in the world and Ederson seems to be the latest.

His performances for Atalanta have been exceptional and it’s little wonder there is interest from the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham now.

For Liverpool, this could be their chance to replace Fabinho with a fellow countryman who is very much of the same ilk.

Ederson has played the destroyer role next to Koopmeiners for Atalanta and at just 24, there’s time for him to get even better and be a real star under Arne Slot.
