Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sees Lille’s Leny Yoro as a potential long-term replacement for Joel Matip.

The Reds, like many other clubs in the Premier League, have had a quiet window. Not much is expected to change over the next week, but if an opportunity to sign a new defender arises, Klopp will make a move. Yoro is a player on his radar, claims TeamTalk.

Jurgen Klopp sees Leny Yoro as Joel Matip’s replacement at Liverpool

Liverpool did some good business in the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side brought in Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. All of them have shown their quality for the Reds so far.

The focus next will have to be on their defence, with Virgil van Dijk not getting any younger and Joel Matip suffering yet another serious injury that could end his Liverpool career.

The Cameroon international is out of contract in the summer, and TeamTalk claim this week that Klopp sees Lille defender Leny Yoro as a ‘potential long-term replacement’ for Matip.

The France U21 international is still just 18 years old. He is a massive talent and has been linked with moves to plenty of clubs already, including Liverpool and Manchester United.

Yoro’s current contract at Lille expires in the summer of 2025, and the French side’s owners are reportedly demanding a mammoth £78 million to let him go.

Thierry Henry is a big fan of Leny Yoro

Thierry Henry is arguably the best striker the Premier League has ever seen, and he has shared dressing rooms with some of the greatest players in the game.

The legendary Frenchman knows a good player when he sees one, and having watched young Leny Yoro train and play for his France U21s side, he seems impressed.

Speaking about the Liverpool-linked teenager, Henry said last year, as per Le10Sport: “What he is doing is extraordinary. Another young player who is having good matches.

“Warren Zaire-Emery attracts a little more attention by being at PSG, playing in the Champions League, he has just joined the A. But, it’s true that Leny is doing a huge job at the moment.”
