125 Liverpool could now move for Nice transfer chief Florent Ghisolfi with the Fenway Sports Group understood to be keen admirers.
The Reds will have already started their search for a new manager with Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season.
That is a big enough task on its own without also needing to find a new sporting director.
Jorg Schmadtke came in last summer to replace Julian Ward but was only a short-term appointment, and he has now left the club following the end of the January window.
Liverpool need to find a sporting director as well as a manager and FSG may just have a name in mind…
Liverpool keen on Nice transfer chief Florent Ghisolfi
The Athletic report that Nice’s Florent Ghisolfi is on FSG’s radar for the Liverpool job.
It’s stated that RedBird capital – who own Toulouse and have a stake in FSG – have been hugely impressed with Ghisolfi’s work at Nice.
Ghisolfi has put himself on the Liverpool radar having contributed to a daring appointment last summer, landing Francesco Farioli as manager.
Nice now sit third in Ligue 1 and Ghisolfi – who is only 38 and joined from Lens in 2022 – is now earning major praise.
Florent Ghisolfi signings
No signing is down to just one person but Ghisolfi contributed to some key signings at Lens during his time as sporting co-ordinator.
Seko Fofana, Jonathan Clauss, Facundo Medina, Kevin Danso, Lois Openda and Salis Abdul Samed all joined Lens under Ghisolfi.
That recruitment saw Lens qualify for the Champions League at the end of last season, though Ghisolfi had already moved to Nice by that point.
Ghisolfi helped bring striker Terem Moffi to Nice last summer and he has responded with six goals in 18 games this season.
Liverpool face Ineos battle for Ghisolfi
A move for Ghisolfi would involve raiding Ineos, who own Nice and are now calling the shots at Manchester United.
Ineos will want to keep Ghisolfi and there may be real reluctance to strengthen Liverpool given the involvement at Old Trafford.
Liverpool may still hope to prise Ghisolfi away though, having already eyed up a move for one of his star players…
Liverpool keen on Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo
Reports in January indicated that Liverpool are interested in Nice centre back Jean-Clair Todibo.
The Frenchman is a tall and athletic centre back who could fit the mould as an heir to Virgil van Dijk down the line.
Joel Matip’s future is unclear with his contract ending this summer and Todibo could be a prime target for the Reds.
Links to Todibo will surely only ramp up if Ghisolfi arrives at Anfield, with the Nice director well aware of the quality Todibo possesses.
