A detailed assessment by a data analysis company has revealed that Ruben Amorim is the best option for Liverpool to replace Jurgen Klopp – not Xabi Alonso.

The Reds are on the hunt for a new manager. Klopp will leave the club at the end of this season, and a number of names have been linked with his job already. Alonso is almost everybody’s favourite choice, but stats show he’s nowhere near as good for Liverpool as some of their other targets.

Data shows Ruben Amorim is better than Xabi Alonso for Liverpool

If you go on the streets of Liverpool and ask most Reds fans who they want as their next manager, almost every one of them will say Xabi Alonso.

The Spaniard is doing a phenomenal job at Bayer Leverkusen, who are currently 11 points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table.

That is an extraordinary achievement, and many feel he could lead Liverpool to glory in their new era after Jurgen Klopp‘s departure.

However, an analysis done by analysts at Carteret Analytics – a company which provides detailed manager assessments to clubs in the Premier League and other divisions – shows that Alonso is far from being the right man for the job.

The assessment, as reported by BBC, is made by calculating eight metrics. They are Objective achievement, Strategic intelligence, Tactical command, Attacking coefficient, Success-adjusted attacking coefficient, Shot conversion, Overall possession home/away and Overall rating.

Klopp is the benchmark and has an overall rating of 151, which is just incredible. Alonso, on the other hand, is nowhere near that. His scare is an underwhelming 106 – only Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi has a worse score of 71.3

Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel and Ange Postecoglou are ranked as the second, third and fourth most-suited managers for the Liverpool job respectively.

The one that ranks closest to Klopp, however, is Ruben Amorim, who scores a very impressive overall rating of 144.7 – just over six points below the German.

A closer look at Ruben Amorim’s stats

Ruben Amorim has been linked with the Liverpool job, and his stats explain why.

The report reveals that the 39-year-old Portuguese has an Objective achievement score of 469, which is lower compared to Jurgen Klopp’s 568.9.

However, Amorim beats the current Liverpool boss in strategic intelligence, tactical command and Success-adjusted attacking coefficient, with scores of 84.28 (vs Klopp’s 75.93), 6.58 (vs 6.39) and 21.31 (vs 20.95) respectively.

If you’re wondering what Xabi Alonso’s scores are for the above metrics, they are 75, 4.89 and 16.59. His Objective achievement score is 257.6, which is over 200 less than Amorim’s and 300 below Klopp’s.

Amorim also has a better-attacking coefficient (25.14) and shot conversion score (40.09) than Alonso (20.98 and 31.91).
