Liverpool are now set to be tested – as a European giant submits an opening bid to sign a player Arne Slot wants at Anfield.

The Reds find themselves in a far more attractive position this summer on the recruitment front after returning to the UEFA Champions League – having been made to settle for UEFA Europa League football last season.

Now – however – there is a potential obstacle in the way of Liverpool signing a player Arne Slot desperately wants on Merseyside…

Juventus bid for Liverpool target Teun Koopmeiners

A story by Calciomercato now claims that Juventus have made an opening bid to sign Atalanta No.7 Teun Koopmeiners.

It comes after a separate story from Calciomercato recently claimed that Liverpool lead the race for the Netherlands international’s signature this summer.

The Coppa Italia winners are said to have submitted an offer worth €45m (£38m) for Koopmeiners after he shone in the 2023/24 campaign, helping Atalanta win the UEFA Europa League and sit fourth in Serie A with 15 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions.

There is still – of course – one more game left to play in Serie A as well.

However, Calciomercato believe Atalanta have no intention of accepting this bid, and will stand firm on their €60m (£51m) asking price.

Dutchman could become a star at Anfield

In our view, Koopmeiners will find it hard to resist the temptation of joining his fellow Dutchman Slot in creating something special at Anfield.

Of course, Juventus are a powerhouse of European football, although the Old Lady are pretty much on par with Atalanta right now, sitting just two points ahead in Serie A.

Therefore, we believe a move to Turin would be something of a sideways step for Koopmeiners, whereas the 26-year-old could take his career to new heights at Liverpool.

The Reds certainly seem convinced by the man from Castricum, as scouts are said to have checked on the versatile midfielder several times throughout 2023.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Liverpool attempt to beat Juventus to Koopmeiners.
