Report: Club's president shocked after Liverpool demand £102m to sell their 27-year-old player

Barcelona president Joan Laporta was left shocked after finding out how much Liverpool want for Luis Diaz this summer.

There will be a lot of changes at Anfield after the end of the season – not much with respect to players but they’ll have a new manager in place along with a new sporting director. One player Liverpool are reportedly open to selling is Diaz, but he won’t be cheap.

Liverpool’s demand for Luis Diaz shocks Barcelona president

Liverpool signed Luis Diaz from Porto for an initial fee of £37 million a little over two years ago (Sky Sports).

The Colombian is a joy to watch when he’s in full flow. He can dribble past players with considerable ease and has the ability to create chances and score goals. Gary Neville thinks he is ‘absolutely amazing‘.

Diaz, however, missed a couple of huge chances against Manchester City, but that hasn’t stopped big clubs from expressing an interest in him.

Colombian news outlet El Heraldo have claimed that Diaz’s representative, Carlos Van Strahlen, met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently.

Diaz’s future was discussed in that meeting as Barcelona would love to sign him. However, the Colombian’s agent informed Laporta that Liverpool want a fee between £102 million and £119 million (€120m-€140m) to sell him this summer.

That surprised the Barca president, who immediately decided to rule out a move for Diaz in the summer. “It’s unfeasible,” he reportedly said.

The report, however, claims that Liverpool are actually ready to sell Diaz, but only if a club meets their asking price.

Liverpool unlikely to get such a big fee for Diaz

Luis Diaz has improved a lot since joining Liverpool, but a valuation of over £100 million is just too much.

The Colombian, 27, has played 85 times for the Reds in all competitions over the last two years but has directly been involved in just 35 goals.

That record shows he’s nowhere near being a £100 million player, and we don’t think Barcelona or any other club in Europe will bid a fee that high to sign him this summer.

We think Diaz will stay at Liverpool beyond the end of this season.
