Ajax winger Antony has been one of the names mentioned this summer when it comes to the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United. But for now, it looks like he’s going to stay in Holland.
Antony is one of the most exciting players in the Eredivisie and with Erik ten Hag now in charge of United, he has been continually linked with a move to Old Trafford. Of course, it’s not just United who want the Brazilian.
Liverpool have been credited with holding their own interest in the winger, while Tottenham are also thought to have considered signing the Ajax star this summer as well. However, according to a report from The Athletic, any club looking to sign Antony appears to have a huge fight on their hands.
Photo by Pedro Vilela/Getty ImagesThe Athletic reports how Ajax are now looking to bring in more than £80m for Antony. A 100m Euro fee has been placed on his head, and at the current rate of exchange, that takes the potential asking-price to a whopping £83m.
The Dutch giants are in no rush to sell given they landed around £50m for Lisandro Martinez. It seems, then, that Spurs, Liverpool and United might have to come back next summer if they want to sign Antony.
TBR’s View: Antony One To Watch Next Summer
Sometimes a name seems to linger on and you just know that it’s going to be mentioned for windows to come. Antony seems to be like that, and if he does stay in Amsterdam this summer, then next year might see a real scramble for him.
He is a talented player as we all know. Indeed, Ten Hag labelled him as a fantastic operator, so it’s clear the United boss is a big fan.
But at the moment, it doesn’t appear anyone will be paying £83m for the winger.
