Liverpool may face a fight if they are going to attempt to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as their next manager, with Brighton having already spoken to the Italian about a new contract.
Roberto De Zerbi has won a lot of admirers with the work he has done with the Seagulls. Many feared for Brighton after Graham Potter decided to leave for Chelsea. But the 44-year-old has arguably taken the club to another level.
Unsurprisingly, De Zerbi is one of the names in the frame for the Liverpool job with Jurgen Klopp set to leave Anfield at the end of the season.
Brighton have discussed new contract with Liverpool target Roberto De Zerbi
But Brighton are, understandably, not prepared to let him leave without a fight. According to a report from talkSPORT, the Seagulls have already spoken with De Zerbi about a new contract.

De Zerbi’s current deal looks set to expire in 2026. So Brighton are in a fairly strong position when it comes to club registering an interest.
Italian would be a decent choice for the Reds if he decides against extending his deal
Xabi Alonso appears to be the obvious candidate for Liverpool. Given that he is a former player – who was so popular at Anfield – and is doing an amazing job with Bayer Leverkusen, it would potentially be a gamble to target anyone else.
But if they do decide to go down a different path, De Zerbi would probably be a very wise choice. He has now proven what he can do in the Premier League. And Brighton definitely play some of the most exciting, full-throttle football in the division.
But his current club are clearly hoping that they can convince De Zerbi to commit his long-term future to them before Liverpool have a chance to step up their interest.
