Report: Celtic have not given up on signing ‘fantastic’ player despite initial rejection

Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic have not given up on the prospect of signing Owen Beck from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

That is according to Football Scotland, which has noted Liverpool’s stance on Beck.

So, what has been reported about Liverpool, Celtic and Owen Beck? Let’s take a look.

Celtic want to sign Owen Beck from Liverpool

Well, according to Football Scotland, Celtic are interested in signing Owen Beck from Liverpool in the January transfer window.

Reigning Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are on the hunt for a new left-back in the January transfer window, and Beck is a player the Hoops want to bring to Celtic Park.

Football Scotland has claimed that Celtic are “still keen on a potential move” for the left-back.

The report has noted that the Hoops first approached Liverpool for Beck after the Premier League club decided to recall him from his loan spell at Dundee.

Beck joined Dundee on loan from Liverpool in the summer of 2023. Celtic were impressed by the displays produced by the 21-year-old and started following him in October.

Celtic’s bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers are also interested in Beck, but, according to Football Scotland, the Gers started to take a look only around December.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that Celtic were keen on a permanent deal for Beck to “upgrade their competition at left-back”, but the youngster “would have faced a fight to play so they were ruled out”. Rangers were also turned down.

Dundee described Beck’s performances as “fantastic” and admitted that he “will be greatly missed” when Liverpool decided to recall him from his loan spell at the Scottish club.

My View: Celtic should focus on another left-back

According to Football Scotland, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not willing to send Owen Beck out on loan again while Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are injured.

Klopp does not want to be short at left-back, so a decision on the future of Beck is unlikely to be made until towards the end of the January transfer window.

Can Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers really wait that long if he wants a new left-back now? Maybe the Hoops would be better off focusing on a new player for that position.
