Barcelona are now considering making an approach for one manager before anyone else amid interest from Liverpool ahead of the summer.
Barcelona and Liverpool will both be looking for new managers at the end of the season. Of course, Jurgen Klopp made the seismic announcement last month that he would be leaving Anfield in the summer.
And Xavi confirmed shortly after that he will step aside after just over two years as Barca boss.
Barcelona planning approach for Xabi Alonso
Xabi Alonso appears to be the leading candidate for the Liverpool job. The Spaniard has done a remarkable job with Bayer Leverkusen, guiding the side to the top of the Bundesliga.

According to a report from Sport in Spain, Barcelona are interested in appointing Alonso.
Alonso had a successful spell with Real Madrid during his playing career, which may complicate things. But the report notes that he spent several years in Catalonia when he was growing up.
Sport reports that Barcelona may try and make the first approach for Alonso before anyone else can. He is considered a dream target for the Catalan giants.
Liverpool target unlikely to rush decision on his future
Barca may have every intention of making the first move for Alonso. However, Liverpool surely have little reason to panic if they do want to bring him back to Anfield in the coming months.
Klopp has made his intentions clear. It is not a situation where there is so much speculation surrounding his position. The German is going, and Liverpool will be managed by someone else next season.
It remains to be seen if Alonso is indeed their top target. But it would be a shock if they did not at least approach him at some stage. He has done an ‘extraordinary‘ job with Leverkusen.
Knowing that, Alonso has little reason to immediately jump at the chance to take the Barcelona job if they come calling.
