Report: Arsenal now in pursuit of 'all-action' £30m midfielder Cesc Fabregas recommended for Liverpool

Arsenal are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as they look to apply the finishing touches to their squad.

The Gunners have enjoyed a great season and their Premier League title hopes remain alive after they ran out 5-0 winners over Chelsea in midweek.

Arsenal have gone from strength to strength since Arteta took the reins and, better still, the Gunners have a great foundation upon which to build further.

We could well see new arrivals in the Gunners midfield amid uncertainty over the futures of players like Thomas Partey, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Fabio Vieira.

Now, according to a report from France, Arsenal are eyeing a midfielder who Cesc Fabregas once said would be great for Liverpool.

The player in question is Youssouf Fofana, who has been impressing at Monaco since he joined in 2020.

According to Footmercato, the Gunners are in pursuit of the 25-year-old, alongside the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.

Who is Arsenal target Youssouf Fofana?

Fofana came through the ranks at Jeanne Darc De Drancy and Strasbourg before moving to Monaco in January 2020 for around £11million.

He has made 171 appearances for the Principality club, registering six goals and 14 assists. He has also won 17 caps for France.

Footmercato have described Fofana as ‘sharp in duels, impressive in midfield’ and now ‘turning into a scorer’, adding goals to his game.

Speaking to RMC Sport in 2022, Arsenal legend Cesc Fabregas claimed he’d love to see Fofana in a Liverpool shirt one day.

“When I came, Thierry (Henry) and Vadim (Vasilyev) also asked me to help grow the young people,” he said.

“It was an important point. Today, I feel like I have won the respect and sympathy of this younger generation.

“I hope I have helped. We like each other. I will continue to follow them, exchange with them.

“I would like to see Fofana, (Sofiane) Diop or (Aurelien) Tchouameni at Bayern or Liverpool!”

Fofana, branded as an ‘all-action’ midfielder, seems like a great option for Arsenal to compete with Declan Rice.

Reports from last year suggested he has a price tag of around £30million. With his contract expiring in 2025, it’s unlikely that valuation could’ve risen much, if at all.
