Arne Slot believes that one Liverpool player has an extraordinary set of attributes and will be critical to his team as he prepares to succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager at Anfield.

Liverpool fans are still coming to terms with the fact that Jurgen Klopp is no longer their manager after he bid an emotional farewell on the final day of the Premier League season.

It is Arne Slot who will succeed the German on Merseyside, and it seems that he has already identified a number of players he wants to build his team around.

The Telegraph reports that Slot sees new contracts for Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold as a priority, while one of their teammates is set for a prominent role.

Arne Slot excited to work with Darwin Nunez at Arsenal

According to the report, Slot picked out Darwin Nunez as one of the players he is particularly excited to work with, claiming that he has an extraordinary set of attributes.

That will be exactly what Nunez wants to hear after what has been a difficult season for the Uruguayan at Liverpool, with the striker scoring just one league goal in the final 11 games of the campaign.

The 25-year-old lost his place in the starting lineup for the last four fixtures, coming off the bench inside the final 20 minutes in each of those games.

Jurgen Klopp pushed for striker’s signing as Reds recruitment team recommended Chelsea star

It is clear just how much potential he could have, but Jamie Carragher is one of those who has expressed his doubts over whether Nunez will ever become the prolific striker Liverpool need.

Interestingly, it appears that the Reds hierarchy had their doubts about signing the forward in the first place. Jurgen Klopp pushed for Nunez when the Liverpool recruitment team were recommending that the club signed Christopher Nkunku.

It seems that Slot is as confident about Nunez as Klopp had been, but it definitely feels as though next season will be a defining one for the striker’s spell at Anfield.
