88 Liverpool’s search for a manager is starting to hot up as The Reds look to bring in a replacement for Jurgen Klopp come the summer – and Ruben Amorim is emerging as a leading contender for the role.
Klopp’s announcement came as a surprise earlier this year and since then, Xabi Alonso had been favourite to take over. The former Liverpool man starring in his role as Bayer Leverkusen manager during 2023-24.
But of course, Alonso has since confirmed he will not be leaving the Bundesliga leaders in the summer. That has thrown things up into the air, with a number of gaffers being linked with a move to Anfield.
Amorim is high on Liverpool’s radar to replace Klopp
Amorim has starred at Sporting. Now more than four years in the role, he is closing in on a second Liga NOS title with Sporting, clocking up 152 wins in 215. Sporting sit four points clear, with a game in hand.
The Portuguese boss is keen on a move to Anfield, according to reports. A manager that Pep Guardiola claims is “one of the best” in the world. He could be facing gaffer Amorim in the dugout next season.
Now, a report from Portuguese outlet CM Journal. It is claimed that Liverpool are meeting with the agents of Amorim on Tuesday, in a bid to convince the Portuguese boss over a move to one of Europe’s biggest.
What Amorim’s agent will say to Sporting after Liverpool meeting
It is also claimed that Amorim’s agent, Raul Costa, will then meet with Sporting after the meeting with The Reds. He will attempt to ‘convince’ The Portuguese club to let Amorim move to Liverpool in the summer.
Amorim’s attacking style of football will definitely identify with what Klopp has emblazoned during his time at Liverpool. Whether his lack of experience outside of Portugal will be an obstacle, we may see.
But Amorim looks to be the one Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes will go after in the coming weeks and months, with a meeting now scheduled. Is Amorim the right one for Liverpool? It is difficult to tell.
