161 Liverpool have placed Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi on top of their transfer wish list to replace Joel Matip.
The Reds spent a lot of money to strengthen their midfield in the summer. They brought in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, and all of them have been good so far. The focus next will be on their defence, and Guehi is reportedly on Jurgen Klopp‘s radar.
Liverpool want to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi has been linked with a number of top clubs, and Liverpool have now joined the race to sign him.
The 23-year-old, who joined the Eagles from Chelsea in an £18 million deal in 2021 (Guardian), has developed into a top-quality centre-half in the Premier League.
He is a full England international now as well, and it’s only a matter of time before he leaves Crystal Palace for a bigger club.
Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Guehi in the past, as have Tottenham Hotspur. Now, The Mirror claims Liverpool want him too.
The report has revealed that the Reds have now placed Guehi on top of their transfer wish list to replace Joel Matip, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Palace, however, will not sell Guehi this month unless a crazy bid arrives, which means a move in the summer is far more likely for Liverpool.
Guehi would be fantastic for Liverpool
Joel Matip suffered a season-ending injury last month, and the fact that he has less than six months left on his contract means his Liverpool career is over, unless the Reds offer him a new deal.
Either way, Matip is 32 already, as is Virgil van Dijk. Neither are getting any younger, and it would be wise of Liverpool to keep an eye on their successors.
Ibrahima Konate is here to stay, while young Jarell Quansah has been really impressive too. Liverpool need another player in that position, and we think Guehi would be fantastic.
The Englishman is good on the ball, fantastic without it and he has a ton of Premier League experience under his belt already. The fact that he is still only 23 means he will only get better in the coming years.
Liverpool are right to target Guehi, and we think he would be a fantastic player for them.
