‘Really, really good’: Gary Neville thought £34m Liverpool man completely made up for a poor first half today

Gary Neville has now claimed that one Liverpool player made amends for a poor first half performance against Fulham today.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were eventually victorious at Craven Cottage, securing their first win at the ground since 2019.

Klopp’s team was a bold one, but ultimately the decision to field a fresh side both physically and mentally proved a good call.

Liverpool weren’t quite at their brilliant best, but in similar fashion to Arsenal at Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday, they got the job done.

Diogo Jota proved a very welcome returnee, a player who always scores vital goals for the club, and has perhaps been missed more than has been stated.

And among the changes today there was also a start for Ryan Gravenberch, who hasn’t played a minute in Liverpool’s last four games.

The £34m-midfielder started alongside Wataru Endo and Harvey Ellliot in a new-look trio, and initially struggled to have an influence

However, having watched his superb strike whilst covering the game for Sky Sports, Gary Neville declared that he had turned his whole performance around.

Speaking right after Gravenberch scored, Neville actually thought the Dutch midfielder could have been subbed at half-time.

He said: “I’m not sure if we would have stayed on the pitch, Gravenberch, if those substitutions had been made.

“But from a sloppy pass from [Alex] Iwobi, just here on the edge of the box under no pressure, a terrible ball – Harvey Elliott cuts it out.

“He just wraps it into Gravenberch who gets it out of his feet quickly and that is a really, really good goal.

“Hasn’t been an easy afternoon for him, he’s made up for it.”

Gravenberch hasn’t necessarily had a poor first season in England by any means, but perhaps would have hoped to have made a better claim for a regular starting spot.

But either way, there’s plenty of reason to suggest that Liverpool’s next boss, be it Ruben Amorim or someone else, will have an excellent young player to work with.

Gravenberch’s career did move so fast as a youngster, and it’s remarkable to remember that he’s still only 21-years-old.

And alongside the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic about the future of Liverpool’s midfield.

That being said, one pundit had some important advice for one player before today’s game kicked off.
