Sat top of the English Premier League, the performances of Liverpool players are now catching the eye of both Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

After a frustrating couple of seasons, Jurgen Klopp’s side are now title contenders once again, and perhaps even favourites this year.

Liverpool are three points clear of Aston Villa in second place, and five ahead of Manchester City who do have a game in hand.

That being said, Trent Alexander Arnold’s form and new freedom in midfield has been a catalyst for Liverpool’s improvement.

And when speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Alan Shearer was very excited to hear Gary Lineker’s thoughts on the prospect of Liverpool’s Trent playing a similar role for England.

Discussing Trent’s chances in England’s midfield, Lineker said: “It’s certainly a viable option. His passing range is truly extraordinary. It really is.

“You know I have been harping on about the fact I think he is a midfield player for six years now!

“But he is playing right back at the moment and drifting in midfield a lot and his passing range is remarkable.”

Shearer replied: “It’s outrageous. You know when you just said that, Trent, Bellingham and Rice, it gets you a bit excited thinking those three in the middle for England.

“That is really, really exciting, that.”

Of course, the midfield three mentioned is a scary prospect for any side to face.

And although £192k-a-week Trent is now the shining light for Liverpool, it seems Curtis Jones also isn’t far away from an England chance.

The midfielder is making excellent progress under Klopp, a player who has already excelled for England’s under-21s.

And as well as being a great prospect for this country, Liverpool fans will also hope Jones can help contribute whilst Mohamed Salah is away at AFCON.

Although Shearer and Lineker are getting excited over Trent’s England future, Liverpool currently have a bigger issue at hand.

Klopp doesn’t have a ton of fixtures to contend with whilst Salah is away, but every game is vital at this point.

And Gabby Agbonlahor was certainly convinced that one forward wasn’t up to the task of replacing Salah.

It’s going to be a challenging month or so for Liverpool, but they should they come out unscathed, they’ll be in a brilliant position for a title push.
