Pundit Ally McCoist has now been discussing a rather disappointing moment from Liverpool’s win over Southampton tonight.
Jurgen Klopp’s side once again enjoyed cup success courtesy of the youngsters in their squad.

But either way, Liverpool secured safe passage and it was another strong night for their extended squad.
And when dishing out praise, it’s also hard to ignore what an incredible talent Jayden Danns is proving to be, scoring a brilliant double.
That being said, Ally McCoist was enjoying the display inspired by Liverpool’s youngsters against Southampton, but admitted he wouldn’t have been happy if he was playing alongside Joe Gomez early on in the game.
In the 11th minute of the match, when the away side were looking dangerous, McCoist was baffled with how little effort Gomez put in to track back and help his team.
Ally McCoist left really disappointed with Liverpool’s Joe Gomez against Southampton
Ultimately Liverpool had Caoimhin Kelleher to thank for saving the situation and the clean sheet with a fantastic save.
But McCoist couldn’t believe that Gomez wasn’t working hard to track back, who could be seen jogging behind the play.

“Really poor, really poor attempt to get back, it’s a good strike, ball breaks to [Sekou] Mara, tries to dip it over Kelleher, but he spreads himself really, really well – makes a big save with his left arm.”
Of course, this was a pretty isolated incident, Joe Gomez has been fantastic on the whole of late.
But with Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas now fit on the left, and Conor Bradley firing on the right, competition is rife at full-back.
And perhaps Klopp wouldn’t be too pleased if he did notice the Liverpool player’s running in that moment against Southampton.
And away from tonight’s game, it seems as if Borussia Dortmund now want a ‘phenomenal’ manager linked with the Liverpool job.
