Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has described Joe Gomez as a “really good example” of developing into a versatile player to the benefit of the team.
The Reds boss spoke about the importance of versatility, citing Gomez as a superb example, at Friday’s press conference ahead of the trip to Brentford.
Liverpool are currently without a number of key players ahead of a very busy period for a club fighting on four fronts domestically and in Europe.
Thiago Alcantara, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai are currently on the sidelines.
In addition, The Athletic has reported that Alisson Becker will miss the Bees game due to a hamstring problem.

With lengthy injury lists having been a problem for most of the Premier League’s top teams, versatility has proven a trait more important than ever among squads.
Asked about the importance of versatility within the Liverpool squad, Klopp told the Reds media team: “Very important, very valuable, but in general that’s how a football squad should be.
“It’s a good sign in general for football how players can… if you break down barriers a little bit in their own mind, ‘That’s my position.’
“Joey [Gomez], when I arrived here and in the time before I arrived here, he played left-back. He showed as a very young kid he can play that but he is a centre-half.
“If you can play left-back, it’s obvious you can play right-back – that’s what Joey did in a specific way very good, unfortunately often enough for some reasons but very good.
“And now he plays the role either side. It’s a really good example for versatility, development and improvement.”
Gomez has been a superb player for Liverpool over the years. He joined the Reds for a reported £3.5million fee from Charlton Athletic back in 2015 and has repaid that fee many times over.
The 26-year-old has made 205 competitive appearances for Liverpool across the entire back line, testament to his quality and versatility.
With Alexander-Arnold now on the sidelines, Gomez will fancy his chances of getting yet more regular starts in the coming weeks.
