‘Pushing us on’: Caoimhin Kelleher hails ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool teammate after Chelsea win today

Although brilliant himself today, Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was full of praise for one of his teammates against Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp will surely be incredibly happy with the way in which Kelleher played, proving he truly is the best number two in the league.

In fact, Kelleher even proved just how good he could be as a Premier League number one, an incredibly underrated player.

And on a day in which it seemed as if both Chelsea and Liverpool simply couldn’t take any of their chances, perhaps it’s better to distribute praise to each goalkeeper.

Just like Kelleher, Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic also had some stellar moments.

That being said, when speaking to Sky Sports after the trophy lift, Kelleher was left amazed with the role one Liverpool teammate played against Chelsea.

Of course, Kelleher was speaking about his captain Virgil van Dijk, who he hailed as ‘unbelievable’.

Kelleher said: “He’s unbelievable, always fit, always showing up for us. He is pushing us on to win more trophies.”

And in Klopp’s final season, both fans and players will hope that’s not the last of the silverware.

Of course, once the dust settles from this trophy win, Liverpool will quickly have another cup tie to negotiate.

Jurgen Klopp will have to refocus his side for a game against Southampton in the FA Cup on Wednesday once they’ve finished enjoying their deserved celebrations.

And perhaps Kelleher’s comment saying Van Dijk ‘always fit’ will be particularly important now we’re almost at the ‘business end’ of the season.

It’s well documented just how many players Liverpool were missing against Chelsea today, but Kelleher clearly recognises the importance of his captain on such an occasion.

And in truth, Van Dijk has proved that he is the most crucial player in Klopp’s squad, perhaps even more so than Mohamed Salah.

That wasn’t always the case last season, when the Dutchman wasn’t quite at his imperious best.

But it shouldn’t be considered a coincidence that Liverpool are now top of the league and lifting a trophy with Van Dijk back in top form.
