Liverpool beat Crystal Palace today thanks to a late comeback but they had some big moments at the back to be thankful for.
The Reds held Palace at 1-0 and then scored two goals via Mo Salah and Harvey Elliott to end up winning the game in dramatic fashion.
However, they could have perhaps should have been out of sight and had it not been for goalkeeper Alisson Becker, they might well have lost.
Alisson produced a wonderful save from Jeffrey Schlupp at one point and after watching the Brazilian’s heroics, Michael Owen was quick to praise him.
Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty ImagesSpeaking on Premier League Productions about the save and Alisson in general, Owen conceded that moments like that are why the Liverpool number one is world-class.
“This is why Alisson is, in my opinion, the best in the world. Yes, he gets some help from the post, but it is a world-class save. Pure world-class, and Alisson is brilliant,” Owen said.
Alisson is Liverpool’s top dog
It’s hard to remember, well in more recent times anyway, Liverpool having a better goalkeeper than Alisson.
You’d surely have to go way back into the years where they dominated to find someone at his level.
Alisson is simply brilliant for the Reds and it is saves like this, as Owen mentions, that make him stand out from the crowd.
Pundits will always pull this one out of the bag but it really does take a top goalkeeper to win titles and Liverpool have one of the best to ever do it at the moment.
Big moments win games and Alisson seems to produce them time and again for the Reds.
Liverpool can win the title this year, no doubt. And if they do, Alisson will have played a huge role.
