Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool is the transfer rumour that just won’t go away.
We’ve been hearing for years about the idea of the Frenchman coming to Merseyside, and while it may seem farfetched, there is clearly some substance to this rumour.
The player himself admitted that he spoke to Liverpool about a move a few years ago, and now, as he enters the final six months of his contract, speculation is starting to ramp up again.
Speaking to The Anfield Wrap, Paul Gorst has been discussing these Mbappe rumours, and he says that the Reds’ interest in the PSG star has only intensified in recent years.
Gorst says that Liverpool do have an eye on this situation, and he reckons that there may even be private conversations happening at Anfield now to see if this deal is feasible.

Gorst shared his update on ‘the best player in the world’.
“They like him, no doubt about it. They’ve liked him since his Monaco days, I remember working at the Echo years back and people there at the time were telling me that Liverpool were encouraging with the noises they made at the time. They made it known at the time that he was someone they liked and that interest has only intensified in recent years,” Gorst said.
“It’s interesting this one, the absence of a transfer fee makes it more realistic, but the issue is that Liverpool’s highest paid player ever is Salah on around £350/400k-a-week, Liverpool could feasibly pay Mbappe that, but if he wants more than that then Liverpool may have to accept it’s beyond them. I don’t think it’s a total non-starter which is enough to keep fans interested for the next few weeks and into the summer.”
“Come the summer Liverpool may be able to say ‘come and join the Premier League champions’ and that’s a feather in the cap. No doubt Real Madrid remain favourites, but I think Liverpool have a bit more than a watching brief on that. I think there will be private conversations, sounding out the relevant and necessary people and they’ll see what happens.”
Not unreasonable
As crazy as this sounds, it’s not that unreasonable to suggest that Mbappe could end up at Liverpool.
Yes, Real Madrid have been favourites to sign him for years, but, at the same time, they have the young Brazilian, Endrick, coming in for big money very soon, while Jude Bellingham seems to be evolving into a number nine in his own right.
There isn’t that much space for Mbappe in Madrid at the moment, and if he wants to test himself in this sport, the Premier League is the place for him.
Think about the allure for Mbappe for a minute. He likes Liverpool as a club, he’d still earn massive money and he’d be able to set-up a generation-defining rivalry with Erling Haaland at Manchester City, and not to sound to business-focused, that rivalry would be great for both players’ brands.
Mbappe joining Liverpool is a pie-in-the-sky idea, but don’t be too shocked if something does happen on this front.
