Gary Lineker has praised Liverpool talent Jayden Danns following his impressive displays in the FA Cup fifth round and the Carabao Cup final.
Lineker, speaking on The Rest Is Football, says the Reds academy graduate “did really well” against Chelsea and hailed his “brilliant” rise to prominence.
Danns has come to the fore in the Liverpool first team over the past few days after an amazing campaign at youth level for the Reds.
The 18-year-old striker has 16 goals and four assists from just 17 outings across the Under-18 Premier League, the FA Youth Cup, Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.

He then featured in the Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea before then going a step further and scoring twice in the FA Cup victory over Southampton.
“It’s a dream come true,” Danns told ITV Sport – via the Liverpool media team – post-match.
“I’ve supported the club since I was young, since birth, so to come on and score at the Kop end – it’s unreal.
“It doesn’t feel real to me. It feels like I’m in a movie. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight.”
Gary Lineker impressed with Liverpool talent Jayden Danns
Lineker liked what he saw from Danns in his recent games as well as his post-match interview after the win over Saints.
“I saw Jayden Danns’ little post-match interview this morning on social media where he’s like ‘oh the best day of my life’,” said Lineker.
“And then, I mean, to score two goals – and I thought he did really well when he came on in the Carabao Cup Final as well, didn’t he, against Chelsea. I mean, brilliant.
“Klopp trusts them. You know, some people say ‘well, you know, he’s not going to take too many chances with his players because they’ve got so many injuries’.
“But still, to beat a side that has been going really well in the Championship by three goals to nil with basically a youth team, it’s pretty impressive!”
It’s great to see an academy talent get his big break at his boyhood club’s senior team and make a name for himself.
We’ve had plenty of those in recent years at Liverpool, and Danns is just the latest. Hopefully this is just the start of a very fruitful career at Anfield.
Considering he has been on the bench in the the past few matches, it’s likely that this will be the case again, and perhaps he’ll get another outing as Liverpool face Nottingham Forest.
