167 Liverpool weren’t at their best against Manchester United this weekend.
The Reds just weren’t clicking against their great rivals. They struggled to create anything and were limited to potshots from distance that barely tested Andre Onana.
The Merseyside club struggled to make anything really happen in the final third, and speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Lianne Sanderson has pointed the finger and Dominik Szoboszlai as a player who wasn’t quite good enough, claiming that he was poor against United on the day.
Szoboszlai poor
Sanderson shared her verdict on the £60m Hungarian.
“It just wasn’t working as well, it was one of those days, we’ve had them, every player turns up, Szoboszlai was poor, and he has been one of their best players this season. I think Manchester United were fortunate that the Liverpool players didn’t turn up, but they’re still nowhere near the levels United are expected to be at,” Sanderson said.
Worst performance
Szoboszlai has been absolutely brilliant since signing for Liverpool, but on Sunday, he put in his worst performance yet in a red shirt.
His decision making was way off, and on a day when Sofyan Amrabat looked incredibly vulnerable up against him in the midfield, he didn’t manage to exploit that weakness.
Szoboszlai has played a lot of football so far this season, so perhaps this is just a fatigue issue, or maybe the occasion got to him a bit as he played in his very first derby against United, but, it has to be said that he wasn’t good enough at the weekend.
In all honesty, there aren’t many Liverpool players who played well at the weekend, but, Szoboszlai was perhaps the most noticeable underperformer compared to his usual standards.
Hopefully Szoboszlai rediscovers his best form soon, because he’s a joy to watch when he’s at it.
