Liverpool midfielder Fabinho delivered a solid display for Brazil in their World Cup meeting with Cameroon on Friday night.

The £180,000-a-week Reds ace made his first appearance of the tournament.

With the Selecao already through to the last 16, head coach Tite made numerous changes for the match.

Brazil ended up losing 1-0 to Vincent Aboubakar’s injury-time goal, though they still topped Group H.

Fabinho was one of the Selecao players who emerged with a decent amount of credit after the match.

The Brazilian media seemed pleased enough with the Liverpool man’s efforts on the night.

‘Back-up to Casemiro, he was one of the main players in the match,’ wrote Correio Braziliense, who gave him 6.5 out of 10.

‘Defensive solidity, with aggressive marking, prevented the Africans from advancing.’

Lance also gave Fabinho 6.5 out of 10 and wrote: ‘Another player who played impeccably.

‘Dominated the defensive midfield and covered when his teammates faltered.’

Globo completed a hat-trick of 6.5 as they wrote: ‘Fabinho had a great first half, winning practically all disputes, with speed, good positioning and strength.

‘With the ball, he made short passes and was discreet. He fell from yield in the final stage.’

Fabinho will be hoping to kick on following his solid performance on Friday night.

The Liverpool man’s form has dwindled this season, but a good World Cup may invigorate him for when he returns.
