214 Liverpool are preparing to take on Luton Town this weekend and Jurgen Klopp has included a number of youngster in his training sessions.
Klopp is big on trying to include young players in the squad and at the moment as he tries to ensure continuity at the club for future seasons.
A number of youngster have been given their chance under Klopp, with Jarrell Quansah one of the latest to be starring at first-team level.
And ahead of playing Luton, it seems others are pushing as well, including young midfielder James McConnell.
Klopp calls up James McConnell to Liverpool training ahead of Luton
Liverpool released their usual training photos prior to the Luton game and there were a number of lesser known faces in the mix.
One of whom was James McConnell, the 19-year-old midfielder. Spotted in the image below shared on Getty, McConnell can be seen coming onto the field with the first-team squad.
Who is James McConnell?
McConnell is a 19-year-old midfielder who has been around the club for some time now and has been impressing at youth level.
The teenager is said to be one of the players Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with and that’s exactly why he is involved with the first-team training.
Under 18s coach Marc Bridge-Wilkinson has previously sung McConnell’s praises and lauded the ‘quality’ he shows in performances for the youth side.
“We have missed James when he has not been available due to injury. I thought he was really good at Newcastle. Obviously he is one of the older players in our group and he played with a mature head. He has got a lot of quality and I thought he showed that,” Bridge-Wilkinson said at the time.
While a call up into the actual squad to face Luton seems unlikely, there is no doubt that the future is bright for McConnell at Liverpool.
Certainly, pushing into the first-team is a big step and if he can keep impressing, then he might just be the latest to break into proceedings at Anfield.
