'People have doubted him': Sky pundit says Liverpool need to look at 46-year-old boss not even in the frame

Lee Hendrie has suggested that Liverpool should have their eye on one Premier League boss who is seemingly not even in contention to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

The football world was rocked by the news that Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. It comes with the Reds top of the Premier League table, and seemingly in a good place after something of a rebuild.

Of course, there has already been a lot of speculation concerning the managers the club may have their eye on.

Eddie Howe backed to be a contender for Liverpool job

Xabi Alonso is on the Liverpool radar, while Roberto De Zerbi is also admired. Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou has been backed by some to come into Liverpool’s thinking.

But speaking on Sky Sports News, Lee Hendrie suggested that Eddie Howe has done enough during his time at Newcastle to be a contender for the post.

“I’d like to chuck someone in there that’s not even on there. I think things aren’t great at Newcastle. We touched on that. And I think somebody like an Eddie Howe that might be someone who knows the Premier League, he’s gone to a football club that’s been a tough one to deal with. I think people have doubted him. I’m not saying he’s leaving Newcastle. But you look at managers who aren’t in the frame and I think De Zerbi and Eddie Howe, I’d be looking at Eddie Howe because I like the way he plays. I like his style,” he said.

So many names will be linked before Jurgen Klopp steps aside

Howe has done a phenomenal job at St James’ Park. When he took over, the Magpies appeared to be in serious danger of being relegated.

Of course, he has had some money to spend. But that does not explain how they were able to then qualify for the Champions League the following year.

Newcastle fans have never lost faith in Howe. And you would imagine that he would not have any intention of leaving. However, Liverpool are probably one of the few clubs who could possibly leave him with a decision to make.

It will be fascinating to see where Liverpool do turn next. Given the importance of the decision, no name in the frame should come as a huge surprise because the club cannot afford to leave any stone unturned.
