‘People are getting it twisted’: Sky journalist says 50-year-old manager is unlikely to get the Liverpool job

Liverpool need to find a new manager.

Jurgen Klopp has announced that he’s going to leave at the end of the season, and while the Reds won’t want to face up to it, the reality is that they have to start thinking about life after Klopp.

A number of managers have been linked to Anfield in recent weeks, and one man who has reportedly been on the club’s radar is Thomas Frank.

However, according to Melissa Reddy, speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Frank is unlikely to get this job, noting that while Liverpool are looking at the data when hiring their next manager, they’re well aware that they can’t just get someone who is similar to Klopp and expect them to be a success.

Thomas Frank unlikely to get the Liverpool job

Reddy shared what she knows about the Brentford boss

“So Thomas Frank is featuring quite highly in newspaper columns because everyone knows Liverpool will take a data-driven approach to finding Klopp’s successor. Where people are getting it twisted are that they are thinking Liverpool will make a decision based purely on the numbers. Brentford switch the play and play a direct style, pressing metrics that are all similar to Liverpool. The numbers are strong in his favour, but Liverpool are smart, they need a personality, they’re not looking for Klopp 2.0,” Reddy said.

“You’re going to come in and play almost identical football, not as well, not with the same rapport, Liverpool won’t do that, Liverpool are smart.”

No chance

We have to say that these links sounded a bit outrageous when they first emerged.

Frank is a good manager, don’t get us wrong, but to replace Klopp at Liverpool you need to be something truly special.

Frank, with all due respect, currently has a decent Brentford team sitting in the bottom-half of the Premier League, that doesn’t exactly scream ‘next Liverpool manager’ does it?

He’s a good coach with a style that is similar to Klopp’s but he’s not cut-out for this job.
