139 Liverpool drew 1-1 with Arsenal tonight and Jamie Carragher felt that Virgil van Dijk was one of the best players on the pitch.
Van Dijk is Liverpool’s leader and skipper now at the back and has been widely recognised as one of the best in the world for years now.
This season, the Dutchman has looked close to being at his very best again after struggling for a bit after his serious injury a few seasons ago.
Tonight against Arsenal, Van Dijk was among a couple of defenders excelling. William Saliba was given the man of the match by the Sky Sports commentary team but Jamie Carragher also felt Van Dijk deserved some high praise as well.
“Van Dijk’s been outstanding today. We’ve mentioned Saliba and rightly so, but these two have been the two best centre-backs in the Premier League this season,” Carragher said.
Van Dijk rolling back the years
We’ve all seen how good Virgil van Dijk can be during his time with Liverpool. His performances ever since he signed have been nothing short of outstanding.
Tonight, with the younger Saliba on the other team, Van Dijk very much showed he’s still one of the top dogs when it comes to defending.
The Dutch defender kept the Arsenal forwards quiet and along with Ibou Konate, who was also brilliant on the night, looked assured at the back.
Van Dijk will be delighted with how his season is going. He does look to be back his best form and for Liverpool, that is massive.
As important players go, Van Dijk is right up as being the main man for Liverpool. It’s vital he stays fit for them all season and if they are to win anything, then he’ll have been at the centre of it.
