England head coach Gareth Southgate has given his verdict on Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Alexander-Arnold started in midfield for England against Malta on Friday evening.
So, what has England boss Gareth Southgate said about Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold? Let’s take a look.
What’s the story?
Well, England beat Malta 2-0 in European Championship Qualifying Group C on Friday evening.
It was an unconvincing win for the Three Lions, who had already qualified for the Euro 2024 finals.
One player who did well for England was Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpool star is a right-back by trade, but he started in midfield.
England head coach Gareth Southgate was impressed by the display produced by the 25-year-old.
Southgate told Channel 4 about Alexander-Arnold: “He has got outstanding quality. He and Phil [Foden] were the two in the first half that looked like opening the game up for us.”
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold excels in England midfield
In my opinion, Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold was brilliant for England in midfield.
The £180,000-a-week (Spotrac) started on the right of a midfield-three and played for the entire 90 minutes.
Photo by Jan Kruger/Getty ImagesThe 25-year-old took four shots and two were on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 92.3%, took 109 touches, attempted two dribbles, made one interception and one clearance, and put in one cross.
Alexander-Arnold was at the heart of a lot of things that England tried to do. He was very lively and gave some brilliant precise long passes, something that he does well for Liverpool too.
Now, I do not think that it was Alexander-Arnold’s best performance in midfield, but I have to point out that he is a right-back by trade.
The Liverpool star is only just starting to play in midfield on a regular basis. I believe that he will only get better.
Alexander-Arnold has made 208 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The Liverpool star has scored 12 goals, provided 55 assists, and given 65 clean sheets in those matches.
