Who is the best January signing ever?
It’s a question that crops up every single year, and there are a few answers that you hear all the time.
The likes of Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Virgil van Dijk are always considered among the best January signings in history.
However, speaking on TalkSPORT’s YouTube channel, Gabriel Agbonlahor has named another player as the greatest January signing of all-time.
Indeed according to the pundit, Luis Suarez’s £23m move to Liverpool back in 2011 was the best January transfer in Premier League history ahead of van Dijk.

Agbonlahor shared his verdict on the former Liverpool striker and Van Dijk.
“I’ve got to go with Van Dijk in second because number one is outstanding. What he’s done at Liverpool, a phenomenon, pace, strength, his passing is outstanding,” Agbonlahor said.
Agbonlahor then named Suarez as his number one January signing.
“At number one, was a tough one, but I have to go with Luis Suarez. On his day he could be top three ever Premier League strikers. When you look at goals he scored, a Norwich game at home, he was scoring goals others wouldn’t even try, an unbelievable striker, finishing, he had every finish, left right, dinks, in the air, link-up play. If he stayed in the Premier League for longer he would’ve broken all sorts of records,” Agbonlahor said.
Incredible
Suarez and Van Dijk were both truly amazing signings for Liverpool, but, in our view, Suarez just about edges this one.
Yes, Van Dijk was probably more transformative, but £23m for a striker who was, for a period, the very best player in the Premier League was ridiculously good business.
Factor in the context that Fernando Torres left Liverpool for £50m that very same day, and this is a transfer that was, quite simply, amazing.
Suarez may well be the best January signing the Premier League has ever seen.
