Opinion: £34m Liverpool player could be about to explode for Liverpool

Liverpool are quietly but effectively going on about their business. I do not think that the Reds have been particularly great this season, but they could go on to win the Premier League title.

Yes, Arsenal are a strong team and Manchester City remain a force to be reckoned with, but Liverpool are certainly in the mix. I personally think that City will win the title yet again, but I would not be surprised if Jurgen Klopp’s side got the job done in the end.

Liverpool have a number of players doing well. Alisson is at the top of his game, Mohamed Salah is banging in the goals for fun, Virgil van Dijk is starting to look like his old self and Dominik Szoboszlai has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

Ryan Gravenberch not at his best for Liverpool

One Liverpool player who has not yet made a huge impact is Ryan Gravenberch. The Netherlands international midfielder moved to the Reds from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 for £34.2 million (Sky Sports).

Much was expected of Gravenberch when he joined Liverpool, but I do not think that he has made a massive impact at the former Premier League champions. However, I believe that the 21-year-old could explode in the coming weeks and months.

We have to remember that Gravenberch did not have a pre-season training with Liverpool. That did affect him. There have also been injury concerns over the former Ajax star.

Gravenberch has made only seven starts in the Premier League, but he has made four starts in the UEFA Europa League. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp clearly likes him, and it seems that he has been using him in European matches to allow him to get to grips with the way that the Reds play.

Ryan Gravenberch going to grow in importance

I think that we could see Gravenberch’s importance in the Liverpool team grow in the second half of the season. A right-footed central midfielder, he is at his best when used as a single pivot or as part of a double pivot.

The Netherlands international midfielder is very comfortable on the ball and can find good passes forward. He is not just a player who sits in the middle of the park and breaks the opposition’s game. He can drive the team forward as well.

Gravenberch has been starting on the left of a midfield-three for Liverpool, and I think that he will make that position his own for good. In the medium to long run, the Dutchman could become a regular in the first team alongside Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister in the midfield. He is only 21. He is going to get better.
