‘Only thing I’ve heard’: Fabrizio Romano shares the only signing he’s been told Liverpool could make in Jan

A quiet January transfer window is expected at Liverpool.

The Reds don’t really need to do too much work on their squad. They spent plenty of money in the summer and they’re currently top of the league as things stand.

Of course, there’s always room for improvement, but with January very much being a seller’s market, Liverpool could well sit back and relax during this window.

However, as the last two January windows have shown, Liverpool will spring into action if an opportunity presents itself, and according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on The Debrief, the Merseyside club are indeed looking for potential opportunities in terms of centre-backs on the market right now.

Liverpool could sign a centre-back

Romano shared what he’s heard about the Reds and their potential January plans.

“At the moment yes, the only thing I’ve heard in the last two or three weeks about Liverpool is that they were looking at some opportunities on the centre-backs market, but Liverpool aren’t desperate to sign a player, they also have Quansah who is doing great and he’s a young talent. If they find an opportunity, Liverpool can look at the market, otherwise they’re very happy with the squad. The only contacts I was told about was about the centre-back position,” Romano said.

Difficult

As much as Liverpool could probably do with a centre-back to add more depth to their squad, finding a quality centre-half at this time of year is so difficult.

Let’s not forget, Liverpool were desperate for centre-backs three years ago in the same position, and they were forced to go for the likes of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak, two players who, with all due respect, just weren’t good enough for the Reds.

Liverpool don’t need that type of stopgap, and they will only move if the right player presents himself, but, unfortunately, that’s unlikely to happen this month as clubs look to keep hold of their key players.
