One Tottenham player actually broke all-time Premier League record yesterday despite defeat to Liverpool

One Tottenham Hotspur player has something to be happy about despite the defeat to Liverpool yesterday.

Spurs’ recent form went from bad to worse at Anfield.

Tottenham went into the game on the back of three consecutive defeats in the Premier League. They suffered losses against Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Liverpool were always going to be the favourites at Anfield, and the Reds absolutely battered the visitors in the opening hour of the game.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went 4-0 up thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott.

Tottenham showed some fight late in the game and halved the deficit thanks to strikes from Richarlison and skipper Heung-min Son.

Heung-min Son breaks all-time Premier League record vs Liverpool

Tottenham’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are all but dead now.

Spurs are seven points behind Aston Villa in the Premier League table, and even though they have a game in hand, it just seems unlikely that they will be able to leapfrog Unai Emery’s side.

Heung-min Son, as you would expect, was not a happy man after Tottenham’s defeat at Liverpool yesterday.

The South Korean was extremely disappointed with his side’s recent performances. He went as far as blaming himself, claiming he has not been good enough lately.

However, Son did get on the scoresheet yesterday.

That made the attacker the first player in the history of the Premier League to score four consecutive times against Liverpool at Anfield.

We’re sure Son would swap that record for the three points if it was offered to him, but he should be proud of doing what he has done in his last four visits there.

It really is a fantastic achievement.

What has to happen for Tottenham to finish fourth

Tottenham have three games left in the Premier League this season, while Aston Villa only have two.

Spurs face Burnley next before welcoming Manchester City in a game that could decide who wins the Premier League title this season. They end their season away at Sheffield United.

Aston Villa‘s remaining games are against Liverpool at home and Crystal Palace away.

For Tottenham to leapfrog Villa to fourth in the table, they have to hope that Unai Emery‘s men will drop points in both of their games.

One win in their final two games will guarantee fourth spot for the Villans, even if Tottenham end up winning all of their remaining games.

However, a loss and a draw or two defeats for Villa in their next two games will open the door for Tottenham to pip them – but Spurs will need three wins out of three then.

As things stand, top-four is looking very unlikely for Spurs, but football is a funny game and anything can still happen.
