Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in signing Cody Gakpo and the Dutch winger made a big impression scoring for the Netherlands today.

Gakpo is attracting plenty of attention over in the Premier League with both Arsenal and Liverpool said to be among the teams keen on signing the PSV winger.

His header against Senegal today sent the Dutch on their way to a big opening game win. Gakpo rose high above Edouard Mendy to give Holland the lead and in the main, impressed.

And taking to Twitter to talk about Gakpo after the game, Fabrizio Romano has said that the Dutchman can be signed for as little as £43m as it stands.

Cody Gakpo remains one to watch for 2023 on the transfer market — he has now scored or assisted 33 goals in all competitions this season. ⭐🇳🇱 #Qatar2022

It’s been claimed that Liverpool have had Gakpo watched as recently as last weekend in a sign they are stepping up their pursuit.

However, should he keep on scoring at the World Cup, then there is every chance even more clubs throw their name in the hat.

Ally McCoist wasn’t overly impressed with Gakpo against Senegal. However, he has been dubbed ‘special‘ by Ruud van Nistelrooy, and he’s bound to end up in the Premier League eventually.

TBR’s View: Gakpo shows Liverpool what he can bring

He might have only done it in patches as McCoist touched on here but Cody Gakpo showed more than enough to suggest he is a player to be reckoned with.

The leap for the goal was a display of athleticism while his pace when getting at defenders was also eye-catching at times.

Sure, Gakpo can do more. But Liverpool will have been impressed enough by Gakpo and will surely keep on watching throughout the tournament. And at just £43m, you have to say it’s a potential bargain overall.
