'On the verge': Ian Wright thinks 23-year-old Liverpool player is about to become absolutely brilliant

Ian Wright has tipped Darwin Nunez to reach a new level very soon at Liverpool.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Wright was actually discussing Gabriel Martinelli and what he can do at Arsenal in the future, and his co-host said that in the near future Martinelli will have an unbelievable season where everything just seems to hit the back of the net.

Wright agreed with that sentiment about Martinelli, while he added his own verdict on another player he thinks is about to have a career-defining season in the shape of Nunez.

Nunez will improve

Wright gave his verdict on the Uruguayan.

“You know there was that season that Mo Salah had that season where everything went in? Martinelli hit the bar there, but he will have a season where everything flies in and it’s all top corner bangers. It feels like he’s on the verge of it,” Wright’s co-host said.

“He’s going to have that season, and you know who else is going to have a season like that? Darwin Nunez is going to have that season and we’ll talk about that at some stage for another one,” Wright said.

Once it clicks

Darwin Nunez has all of the attributes to be an absolute superstar for Liverpool, but it’s just not clicking for him at the moment.

The striker is getting very unlucky, and with every miscue he has, he seems to lose a bit of confidence.

However, he keeps getting chance after chance, and once he finds his shooting boots again, he will be unstoppable.

Sometimes it can just take a player 12 months to acclimatise to Premier League football, and perhaps next season we’ll see the best of Nunez.
